Job description
Overview Our client, a large, purpose-led organisation operating at significant scale across the UK, is looking to appoint a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of a complex, business-critical technology estate. This is a hands-on role within a small, high-trust team, where you'll be responsible for maintaining, improving, and stabilising infrastructure that supports thousands of users across a multi-site environment. This is not a pure support role, and not an architecture-only position. It's about ownership, reliability, and making systems work properly at scale. The Role You'll operate as a senior infrastructure generalist, working across cloud, on-prem, networking, and endpoint environments. You'll be trusted to take problems end-to-end - identifying root causes, implementing fixes, and improving how the estate is managed over time. There is real autonomy here, and a genuine need for someone who takes responsibility rather than escalating issues., * Own and manage core Azure infrastructure, including identity and networking
- Support and enhance endpoint management across a large device estate (Intune / M365)
- Maintain and improve networking and connectivity (WAN/LAN, VPN, SD-WAN)
- Manage servers, backups, resilience, and monitoring across a hybrid estate
- Ensure infrastructure is secure, stable, and aligned with operational needs
- Work closely with internal teams and third-party providers to resolve issues and improve service reliability
- Identify opportunities to reduce risk, improve performance, and standardise the environment
Requirements
- Strong experience as an Infrastructure Engineer within a complex environment
- Solid hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft Azure
- Intune / Endpoint Management
- M365 / Identity (Entra / Active Directory)
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals (WAN/LAN, VPN, firewalls)
- Experience supporting hybrid environments (cloud + on-prem)
- Comfortable working across a broad infrastructure remit (not siloed)
- A proactive, ownership-led mindset - someone who solves problems rather than passes them on
The Environment
- Large-scale, multi-site infrastructure
- Mix of cloud and on-prem systems
- Technology supporting real-world, front-line operations
- A pragmatic, budget-conscious environment where stability matters
Why This Role?
- Genuine ownership within a small, trusted team
- Broad technical exposure across a full infrastructure estate
- Opportunity to improve and modernise systems in a meaningful way
- A stable, long-term environment with real impact
Final Note This role suits someone who enjoys being close to the technology - understanding how it works, improving it over time, and taking responsibility for keeping it reliable. If you prefer abstract strategy or purely project-based work, this won't be the right fit. If you want hands-on ownership in a complex, real-world environment, it's a strong opportunity.
