Job description

The Head of Digital Transformation is responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation's AI and digital efficiency agenda within the Transport Infrastructure business, with a strong focus on Rail and Highways operations. Working closely with a range of stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of frontline operations, they will identify opportunities for digital and AI-enabled improvement, leading complex transformation initiatives end-to-end, standardising and optimising processes, and driving behavioural and cultural change to embed new ways of working., * Engage regularly with operational and frontline teams to understand current processes, pain points, and opportunities for digital or AI-enabled improvement.

  • Lead and coordinate digital transformation initiatives end-to-end, from problem definition and solution design through to implementation, adoption, and performance tracking.
  • Work closely with senior leaders, technical teams, and delivery partners to align digital activity with business strategy, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise emerging digital, automation, and AI technologies that can demonstrably improve productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Drive standardisation and optimisation of systems and processes, reducing duplication and complexity while building a more integrated digital ecosystem.
  • Actively challenge existing ways of working and support change management efforts, ensuring new tools and processes are embedded, adopted, and delivering lasting value.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading complex digital or business transformation programmes end-to-end, with a strong track record of delivering measurable operational and commercial outcomes.
  • Strong programme, project, and PMO capability, bringing structure, governance, and discipline to multi-stream transformation initiatives.
  • High level of digital and technical fluency, with a solid understanding of process improvement, automation, and AI-enabled solutions and how they create real business value.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, challenge, and engage stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders, operational teams, and technical specialists.
  • Deep experience in change management, with the confidence to disrupt entrenched ways of working and successfully embed new tools, processes, and behaviours.
  • Naturally curious, collaborative, and commercially minded individual with high personal accountability and a strong drive to improve frontline productivity and performance.
  • Professional certifications in Project / Change Management (MSP / Prince2 / APMG), IT Leadership (ITIL / TOGAF) and/or Process Improvement (Lean Six Sigma) are desirable.
