Job description

Under general supervision of the Superintendent II, this position performs duties in support of CCWF's Optical Lab. This position is responsible for inventory, procurement and supervision of a group of incarcerated individuals assigned in the manufacturing of prescription eyewear in the institutional Optical Enterprise. Employees having regular, direct responsibility for work supervision, on-the-job training, and work performance evaluation of at least two incarcerated individuals, wards, or resident workers who substantially replace civil service employees for a total of at least 120 hours per pay period., Pursuant to the Public Health Orders, masks shall be worn if necessary, in accordance with local county requirements, CDPH requirements, and directives issued by CDCR and CALCTRA. COVID testing may be required under circumstances determined by the department. Both institutional and non-institutional testing protocols are constantly evaluated and will be revised based on most current public health ordinances. CDCR and CALCTRA shall continue to assess conditions and may be required to reinstate, as needed, higher levels of testing and mitigation strategies to limit the spread of COVID-19 within our work locations.

Requirements

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience performing clerical work, entering data, preparing and reviewing documents and perform calculations.
  • Customer service, experience answering phones and reception work.
  • Computer knowledge, experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience meeting deadlines, working independently and in a team environment.
