Job description
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 3 or R&D Engineer 4 level, depending upon the skills of the candidate. Additional job responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level., The Integrated Weapons Experiments (IWE) Office, within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering Program Office (ALDW-PO), is seeking an energetic and experienced individual to provide systems engineering leadership, including interface definition and requirements development, within the laboratory's Hydrodynamic testing portfolio. The selected candidate will report directly to the IWE Project-Program Director supporting Hydrodynamic experiments as defined in the National Hydro Test Plan (NHTP). The candidate will play a key role implementing initiatives to standardize the engineering design process to improve the cadence of IWE execution in support of core laboratory mission goals, all while seeking solutions that preserve and increase data quality from hydrodynamic experiments., * Understand the hydrodynamic process, stakeholder interests and relationships between physics, engineering and experiment execution. Understand how all processes and activities influence the quality of data from hydrodynamic experiments.
- Implement systems engineering principles, to include a graded approach for experiment rigor, to improve the cadence of IWE execution throughout all phases of the experiment lifecycle.
- Coordinate with physics, engineering, manufacturing, quality, experimental teams, and Sub-Critical Experiments (SCEs) to develop, manage, and standardize IWE requirements and constraints.
- Work with existing stakeholders to select, develop, and implement digital tools to streamline system engineering processes enabling improvements and collaboration across the IWE portfolio while ensuring data quality.
- Collaborate across organizations to define interfaces in process or engineering. Develop process or technical solutions that constrain these interfaces for consistent results.
R&D Engineer 4 ($153,600 - $266,500)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the R&D Engineer 4 will provide vision, leadership, and mentorship to the integrated project teams supporting IWEs.
Additional responsibilities include the following
- Develop a vision and provide transformative engineering leadership, using systems engineering principles, to streamline IWE execution throughout all phases of the experiment lifecycle.
- Train, mentor, and support the integrated project teams enabling successful implementation of system engineering principles throughout all phases of the experiment lifecycle., Note to Applicants:
- For consideration, applicants must submit a cover letter addressing all minimum and desired requirements.
- Due to federal restrictions contained in the current National Defense Authorization Act, citizens of the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea, and the Russian Federation, who are not Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card" holders) are prohibited from accessing facilities that support the mission, functions, and operations of national security laboratories and nuclear weapons production facilities, which includes Los Alamos National Laboratory.
