Job description

Location: Remote (California-based preferred) Pay Range: $75,000 - $98,000/year ($36 - $47/hr), depending on experience - benchmarked to the San Diego market

Cal Coast Telecom (CCT) designs and installs access control, video surveillance, intrusion, and related low-voltage security systems across California. We handle commercial, public works, and federal projects. We are looking for a Security Draftsman to produce clean, accurate, buildable drawings for our engineering and project teams. This is a remote role with occasional job walks or team meetings.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce panel elevations, rack elevations, and detail drawings for security systems.
  • Create floor plans, device layouts, riser diagrams, and single-line diagrams in AutoCAD.
  • Build and revise full submittal packages for access control, CCTV, intrusion, and fire alarm systems.
  • Interpret engineering markups, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with PMs, engineers, and field crews to fold in design changes.
  • Maintain drawing logs, version control, and organized project files.
  • Update as-builts based on field conditions and support project closeout.
  • Prepare and link product data sheets, cut sheets, and installation documents for install teams.
  • Make sure drawings meet applicable building codes, NFPA standards, and NEC requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of AutoCAD drafting experience, preferably in low-voltage or security systems.
  • Working knowledge of access control, CCTV, intrusion, or structured cabling.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to hit deadlines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Reliable home workspace and internet for a remote role.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with electrical contractors or systems integrators.
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting or a related field.
  • NICET certification.
  • Familiarity with major access control and camera manufacturers.
