Job description

A growing managed service provider in the Harrogate/Knaresborough area is looking for a Technical Support Engineer with solid hands-on networking experience. You’ll be the person who can confidently take on DHCP, DNS, routing, switching, VPN and firewall issues from day one. Server work and Microsoft 365/Entra/Intune can be taught internally - networking is the key skill they need immediately.

Why They’re Hiring

The support desk handles a steady flow of tickets, with 2nd line typically resolving around 10-20 per day. Two engineers currently take on most of the networking-heavy work, and the business is adding another engineer to strengthen coverage and ensure clients get fast, confident support on traditional networking issues.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Taking ownership of 2nd line tickets escalated from 1st line
  • Providing remote support to a mix of local and international clients
  • Troubleshooting networking environments: DHCP, DNS, switching, routing, VPNs, firewalls
  • Supporting on-prem and virtual server environments (training provided)
  • Learning and supporting Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune (training provided)
  • Working closely with senior engineers on complex issues
  • Keeping documentation and ticket notes clear and accurate
  • Being part of a tight, office-based team, * Office-based role with a supportive, social team

Requirements

  • Real hands-on networking experience (not just theory)
  • Solid 2nd line background within an MSP or IT services environment
  • Strong troubleshooting ability across Windows and common business applications
  • Confidence speaking directly with clients
  • Ability to stay calm and organised when the desk gets busy
  • Team-focused attitude - this role is fully office-based
  • (Advanced Microsoft 365/Entra/Intune knowledge is a bonus but not essential.)
