Job description

This is a senior-level application support role focused on ensuring critical business applications operate efficiently, support organizational workflows, and meet evolving business needs. The position combines technical troubleshooting, business process analysis, project leadership, and stakeholder collaboration to drive application performance and continuous improvement., * Resolving complex application issues while minimizing business disruption.

This role is best suited for an experienced Application Analyst who can blend technical expertise, business process knowledge, and leadership skills to deliver reliable application performance and drive operational excellence across the organization.

The Pharmacy IT Systems Analyst serves as the bridge between inpatient pharmacy operations and healthcare technology, ensuring that pharmacy applications effectively support medication management, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This individual partners closely with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and IT teams to analyze business needs, optimize workflows, and implement technology solutions that enhance clinical outcomes and streamline pharmacy operations. Core Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and document clinical and business requirements from pharmacy, nursing, physician, and operational stakeholders.
  • Design, configure, implement, and support technology solutions that improve medication management workflows and patient safety.
  • Maintain and optimize Epic Willow Inpatient and related pharmacy applications to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Lead and participate in system upgrades, testing initiatives, validation efforts, and go-live support activities.
  • Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and serve as a key escalation point for pharmacy-related system concerns.
  • Support medication build, order sets, formulary management, clinical decision support tools, and pharmacy workflows.
  • Ensure systems comply with healthcare regulations, organizational policies, and patient safety standards.
  • Develop user documentation, training materials, and educational resources to support end-user adoption.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership and clinical teams to identify process improvements, enhance system functionality, and reduce medication-related risks.

Epic Willow Inpatient Responsibilities

This role requires a strong understanding of inpatient pharmacy operations and medication management workflows, including:

  • Inpatient medication ordering and verification processes
  • Medication dispensing and administration workflows
  • IV medication and infusion management
  • Clinical decision support alerts and medication safety tools
  • Formulary and medication build maintenance
  • Pharmacy automation and dispensing system integrations
  • Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) workflows
  • Integration with nursing, physician, and ancillary clinical systems

The successful candidate will understand the complete medication-use process, from provider order entry through pharmacist verification, dispensing, administration, and final clinical documentation., * Collaborating with pharmacy leadership on workflow improvements and system enhancements

  • Supporting Epic Willow build, configuration, and optimization efforts
  • Investigating and resolving medication order processing issues
  • Participating in application upgrades, testing, and validation activities
  • Assisting pharmacists and clinicians with application support requests
  • Evaluating enhancement requests and recommending solutions
  • Coordinating with Epic analysts, informatics teams, and IT leadership
  • Monitoring system performance to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication management processes

Requirements

The ideal candidate possesses at least five years of application support experience and a strong understanding of how technology enables business operations. They will serve as a trusted resource for both technical teams and end users, helping identify root causes of issues, recommending system enhancements, and ensuring applications are aligned with operational objectives.

A key component of the role is workflow analysis and process optimization. The individual will assess current business processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend solutions that increase efficiency, improve user experience, and enhance overall system utilization. They must understand how applications integrate across departments and be able to present recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This position also requires strong leadership capabilities. Candidates should be comfortable leading application-related initiatives, coordinating discussions across multiple teams, and driving projects from planning through implementation. Previous experience serving as an application lead or participating in project management activities is highly desirable.

In addition to technical expertise, the role demands excellent communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will help guide team members, establish priorities, support knowledge sharing, and foster a collaborative environment. They should be comfortable working independently, handling complex challenges with minimal supervision, and adapting to changing business and technology landscapes., * Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • 5+ years of application support experience.
  • Relevant application certification required.
  • Experience leading projects, system implementations, upgrades, or enhancement initiatives preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and workflow optimization skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proven ability to mentor team members and support organizational change initiatives., * Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution
  • Active Pharmacist licensure with a minimum of one year of pharmacy practice experience

Experience

  • Four or more years of experience supporting clinical or administrative healthcare information systems
  • Experience working within a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Strong knowledge of inpatient pharmacy operations and medication management workflows
  • Experience supporting EHR platforms, clinical applications, or pharmacy information systems

Technical Skills

The ideal candidate will possess experience in:

  • Healthcare application configuration and maintenance
