Job description

Roles of this type could sit within a collaborative, technically-driven engineering environment where you would work alongside data architects, analysts and platform teams to build and enhance data infrastructure. The work could involve designing and implementing data pipelines, ensuring data quality and consistency, optimising system performance, and collaborating with stakeholders to understand and translate data requirements into technical solutions. You could have scope to contribute to decisions about technology choices, system design patterns and process improvements across the data platform., * Designing, building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ETL processes that move data reliably from source systems to analytics platforms

  • Developing data quality frameworks and monitoring processes to ensure data consistency, accuracy and governance across the platform
  • Working with data architects and analytics teams to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications and implementations
  • Optimising data pipeline performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to improve throughput and latency
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across the business to gather data requirements, understand use cases and communicate technical constraints and trade-offs
  • Supporting the deployment, maintenance and monitoring of data infrastructure across cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Contributing to the selection, implementation and refinement of tools, technologies and best practices for data engineering, Most roles of this type offer the following, dependent on the industry and seniority of the role:

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ professional experience in data engineering, data infrastructure or similar data platform development roles
  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Bash or similar) and demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases; experience designing and optimising data models
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines using modern ETL/ELT tools and frameworks
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) and their data services
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
  • Authorization to work in the United Kingdom

Nice-to-have

  • Master’s degree
  • Google Cloud Data Engineer certification
  • Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools
  • Experience with distributed systems architecture and microservices patterns
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks or CSDR/regulatory compliance in data contexts
