Roles of this type typically sit at the intersection of data architecture, infrastructure and delivery, working with teams to design, build and maintain systems that ingest, process and serve data reliably. You could be involved in defining data quality standards, collaborating with stakeholders to align data infrastructure with business needs, and contributing to the technical decisions that shape how organisations unlock value from their data., * Designing and building scalable data pipelines and infrastructure using modern cloud platforms and tools

  • Collaborating with data analysts, stakeholders and engineering teams to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Developing and maintaining data quality frameworks, monitoring data integrity and identifying and resolving data anomalies
  • Working with technologies such as cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD systems and orchestration tools
  • Contributing to system design decisions using microservices and distributed systems principles
  • Writing clean, maintainable code in languages such as Python, Java or other relevant technologies
  • Supporting infrastructure as code practices using tools such as Terraform
  • Collaborating across teams to ensure data pipelines align with business and technical requirements

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and maintaining data pipelines, with hands-on knowledge of data infrastructure design
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala or similar)
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) and related data services
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases
  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools
  • Experience with data quality and testing approaches
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom

Nice-to-have

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Google Cloud Data Engineer certification
  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture
  • Exposure to data governance frameworks or data requirements gathering
  • Familiarity with additional cloud platforms or advanced data technologies
  • Knowledge of APIs and system integration patterns

Benefits & conditions

Most roles of this type offer the following, dependent on the industry and seniority of the role:

  • Opportunity to build and optimise critical data infrastructure that drives business insights
  • Exposure to modern cloud technologies and data engineering best practices
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams on high-impact data challenges
  • Potential to develop expertise across the full data pipeline lifecycle
  • Working in a contract role with flexibility and day-rate compensation (£500-650 per day)
  • Remote flexibility within a hybrid working model based in London
  • Exposure to scalable, distributed systems and emerging data technologies
  • Structured learning and development through exposure to diverse data challenges and technologies
