Enterprise CMDB & Service Management Architect

This position supports a mission-critical federal program focused on enterprise IT portfolio rationalization, modernization, and governance within a federal agency’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Our team discovers, documents, and rationalizes a large and complex enterprise IT estate - spanning networks, infrastructure, applications, data, and identity - to establish an authoritative baseline and chart a clear path toward a consolidated, well-governed target state. We seek professionals who are not only technically proficient but also adaptable, analytical, and dedicated to excellence, ensuring that we continue to provide our clients with the best expertise available., The Enterprise CMDB & Service Management Architect serves as the authoritative technical lead for building the single source of truth the enterprise lacks today. This role stands up discovery tooling and the data pipeline that feeds it, designs and builds the authoritative configuration management database (CMDB), and establishes the unique-identifier framework so that every item - system, application, device, and network - carries one identity, with duplicates reconciled. The architect defines authoritative sources, data ownership, and the operating and governance model that keeps the CMDB accurate over time, and owns the enterprise unique-identifier backbone in partnership with the IAM Architect, who carries the people layer.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Washington, D.C., requiring availability during normal business hours, with occasional night and weekend work as needed based on program demands. The Enterprise CMDB & Service Management Architect works closely with executive leadership and cross-functional engineering teams across network, infrastructure, cloud, identity, data, and enterprise architecture, and supports governance processes and milestone reviews throughout the program.

Key Responsibilities

• Stand up discovery tooling and the data pipeline that feeds the CMDB

• Design and build the authoritative enterprise CMDB the agency lacks today, aligned to a recognized data model (e.g., the Common Service Data Model)

• Establish the unique-identifier framework so every item - system, application, device, and network - carries one identity, with duplicates reconciled

• Define authoritative sources, data ownership, configuration-item lifecycle, and the operating and governance model that keeps the CMDB accurate

• Partner with the IAM Architect on the people layer of the one-identity framework, and with the workstreams that feed and consume the CMDB

• Align IT service management processes (incident, problem, change, and asset) to the governance model

• Translate discovery into a living source of truth that every other workstream draws on

• Produce professional-grade CMDB and service-management architecture artifacts, data models, and documentation

• Support governance processes, technical reviews, and milestone gates, and brief findings to leadership and federal stakeholders

• Identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement in partnership with the broader team

Do you have experience in ServiceNow?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)

• ITIL 4 Foundation certification and a ServiceNow certification (e.g., Certified System Administrator or Certified Implementation Specialist) required

• One or more of the following strongly preferred: ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist - Discovery or a CMDB/CSDM-focused credential; ITIL 4 Managing Professional; DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP); a Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework (FEAF)-based enterprise architecture credential (e.g., FEAC Institute ACEA or CEA); CompTIA Security+

Experience

• At least 10 years of progressive experience in IT service management and configuration management, including CMDB design and build

• Hands-on expertise with the ServiceNow platform and enterprise discovery tooling

• Demonstrated experience establishing authoritative sources, data ownership, and master data / unique-identifier frameworks in large, complex enterprise environments; federal experience preferred

• Proven track record standing up a governed, accurate source of truth that other teams depend on

Technical Expertise

• ServiceNow platform architecture and IT Service Management (ITSM)

• CMDB design and build, including the Common Service Data Model (CSDM)

• Discovery tooling and data pipelines (e.g., ServiceNow Discovery, MID Servers, integrations, import/transform)

• Master data management (MDM), unique-identifier assignment, and duplicate reconciliation

• Authoritative source definition, data ownership, and configuration-item lifecycle and governance

• ITIL processes (incident, problem, change, asset, and service mapping) and IT operations governance

• Working knowledge of federal security frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53 and FISMA)

Pay: $105,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
