Technical Services Associate (Glass)

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2025 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2025 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students.

Background

This role sits within the Art & Design technical services team, specifically supporting the glass workshops. The glass workshop provides specialist facilities and technical expertise to students and staff working within creative glass disciplines, ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and innovative learning environment.

The main purpose of this role is to support the effective running of the glass workshops by assisting technical staff, maintaining a safe and organised working environment and contributing to the development of digital resources and systems that enhance learning, accessibility, and workshop efficiency.

The role also aims to provide hands on experience in technical support, health and safety practice, and small-scale project delivery within a creative workshop setting., * Supporting technical staff in the day to day running of the glass workshops.

• Ensuring workshop users adhere to health and safety requirements.
• Reviewing and contributing to health and safety documentation.
• Identifying, monitoring, and reporting health and safety hazards or equipment issues to technical staff.
• Carrying out routine equipment checks and reporting faults.
• Maintaining workshop cleanliness and organisation, ensuring users clean up after themselves.
• Organising stores and managing stock.
• Professionally responding to workshop users queries, applying knowledge and signposting to technical staff where appropriate.
• Assisting with the digital needs of the workshop, including content creation, resources and system improvements
• Producing ideas, generating reports, and presenting findings to technical staff.
• Problem solving complex technical issues within the workshop environment.
• Supporting colleagues to achieve successful completion of projects.
• Using initiative and judgement to improve and modernise workshop systems and processes.

Person Specification

This role is only open to those who graduated from a Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2025 and are not currently studying, nor have previously studied, on a postgraduate course.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential:

• Graduated from an Art & Design Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2025

• Fully inducted and experienced in the glass workshops

• Awareness of health and safety practices

• Familiarity with Moodle or similar learning platforms

• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team

• Self-management and effective time management on assigned tasks

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and feedback

• Good customer service skills

Desirable:

• Basic video production skills (filming, editing, exporting)

• Experience creating digital content (e.g., images, PDFs, written guides)

• Desire to work within the creative glass sector

• Experience editing content directly in Moodle

• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools

• Understanding of diverse learning styles

• Experience working in or around technical or hands-on learning environments

• Basic understanding of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and how to communicate them clearly
