Plan Your Trip

Visa

Whether you need a US visa or ESTA to attend depends on your nationality. If you do, and you already have a ticket, we can issue an official invitation letter to support your application.

Before You Apply

Before You Apply

Whether you need a B-1 business visa, an ESTA travel authorization, or nothing at all to enter the United States is determined by your nationality and the US Department of State. We can't make that determination for you, so check the official source first. The invitation letter we issue does not guarantee a visa or ESTA approval — that decision rests solely with US consular and border authorities. WeAreDevelopers does not cover travel, accommodation, or any other costs of your trip, and provides no financial guarantee on your behalf.

  • Your ticket must be paid for before we can issue an invitation letter.
  • The name and details on the letter must match your passport exactly.
  • B-1 visa interviews can take some time in specific countries — apply as early as possible.

FAQ

Common Questions

What ticket reference do I enter?

The code on your individual ticket, in the form XXXX-N (for example ABCD-1). You'll find it on your ticket PDF and in your confirmation email. The bare order code on its own (e.g. ABCD) isn't enough — on a group order each attendee has their own ticket reference, and the letter is tied to whichever ticket you enter.

The name on my ticket is different from my passport — what now?

Submit the form anyway with your passport name — in many cases it will still go through. If it doesn't, write to help@wearedevelopers.com and we'll sort it out manually. Note that the email route is slower than this self-serve form, so try the form first.

My employer bought my ticket — can I still get a letter?

Yes. Use your own ticket reference (XXXX-N) and the email assigned to your ticket (which may be different from the email of whoever paid for the order), and submit your own passport details. If your ticket hasn't been assigned to you yet, ask whoever placed the order to assign it to your name and email first — until that's done, the ticket isn't tied to you and the verification will fail.

Can a colleague on the same order request their own letter?

Yes — and they have to use their own ticket reference, not yours. Each attendee on the order gets a different ticket reference (ABCD-1, ABCD-2, …), and the letter is issued against whichever ticket reference is entered. Each person also enters the email and passport details that match their own ticket.

Can I get a single letter for a whole group?

No. Every attendee needs their own individual letter, because each letter has to match one specific person's passport.

Do I need a visa if I'm coming on ESTA?

ESTA is an electronic travel authorization, not a visa, and is only available to citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries. If you qualify for ESTA, you generally don't need a B-1 visa to attend the event. Check the official US Department of State guidance linked above to confirm what applies to you.

Does the letter guarantee my visa or ESTA will be approved?

No. The decision rests solely with US consular and border authorities. The letter is supporting evidence that you have a legitimate reason to travel to the event.
