Job description
The Tax - Technology Delivery Manager (TDM) is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of technology solutions that support business outcomes within the Tax Service line. This role is delivery-focused, with a strong emphasis on managing technology teams to execute initiatives within defined timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.
Operating within the organisation's Technology Delivery Framework (TDF), the role ensures that delivery practices are consistent, structured, and aligned to established governance. It facilitates coordination across development, technical product ownership, and quality assurance, maintaining delivery momentum and proactively addressing risks and dependencies to achieve operational goals.
Key accountabilities:
Integration Management
Lead the end-to-end delivery of technology projects, programs, and initiatives within the Tax Service line, ensuring alignment with org objectives and the Technology Delivery Framework. Coordinate delivery across multiple workstreams, ensuring seamless integration of technology components and alignment with business outcomes. Support the Technology Product (Portfolio) Manager with strategic planning and prioritization in line with business demand. Scope Management
Manage the definition, control, and delivery of technical scope across programs and projects. Ensure that scope changes are assessed for impact and communicated effectively to stakeholders. Maintain high-quality technical documentation to support delivery transparency and traceability. Time Management
Create & manage delivery schedules, ensuring that timelines are realistic, tracked, and met. Identify and address delivery bottlenecks and cross-team dependencies early, in order to maintain momentum. Provide timely updates to stakeholders on progress, delays, and recovery plans. Cost Management
Monitor and manage budgets across programs and projects, ensuring financial accountability. Track expenditure against forecasts and support cost optimisation efforts. Provide accurate and timely budget reporting to relevant stakeholders. Quality Management
Ensure that technology solutions meet defined quality standards and acceptance criteria. Adhere to the Technology Delivery Framework and QMS checkpoints. Advocate for and mentor teams on compliance with technical standards, frameworks, and governance best practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery efficiency, quality, and scalability. Resource Management
Manage technology delivery team resources, ensuring appropriate allocation and utilisation to meet delivery goals. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within delivery teams. Identify resourcing gaps and work with leadership to address capacity and capability needs. Communications Management
Act as a liaison between technology teams, senior leaders, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of technology solutions with business requirements. Provide regular, structured updates on technology delivery status, risks, and performance metrics. Ensure timely reporting for various forums and stakeholders, including quarterly reports and governance committees (e.g. IT Management, IT Executive & IITC). Risk Management
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate technology risks and challenges to ensure delivery continuity. Escalate significant risks or issues to senior leadership with actionable recommendations. Analyse delivery outcomes to identify lessons learned and inform future improvements. Procurement (Vendor) Management
Ensure vendor engagements are set up for success with a clearly defined and agreed Statement of Work and documented Ways of Working. Manage vendor relationships to ensure successful delivery of outsourced or third-party components. Monitor vendor performance and ensure alignment with contractual obligations and delivery expectations. Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, development, QA, product ownership, operations & support, the PMO and the Global Tax team, BDO firm representatives to facilitate cohesive delivery. Engage stakeholders to validate requirements, manage expectations, and ensure delivery remains business-focused. Champion stakeholder feedback loops to inform delivery adjustments and continuous improvement
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile, Scrum, ITIL) preferred. 7+ years of experience in technical project or delivery management, with a strong focus on software development, infrastructure, or related technology domains, and people management. Proven track record of delivering complex technology projects in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
Skills and Competencies
Effective people management skills and ability to drive outcomes. Experience working with multiple third-party vendors and partners to deliver complex information technology projects. Ability to establish and adhere to strict project timeframes. Strong technical expertise in development, quality assurance, and delivery frameworks and methodologies. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Effective stakeholder management and communication abilities, with the capacity to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project) and collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams). Demonstrate the ability to balance priorities among competing needs whilst providing the highest level of value to BDO. Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills. Financial literacy to forecast and manage project budgets. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and drive other team members, and to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
