Job description
We are seeking a proactive and security-conscious IT Support Specialist to support the day-to-day operation of IT systems across our healthcare clinic. Working closely with the IT Manager, you will provide technical support to both clinical and administrative staff, ensuring systems, networks, and security controls remain reliable, compliant, and available., This role supports NHS-connected systems (including SystemOne, smartcards, VPN access, and network security controls) alongside internal platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Intune, and managed firewalls. The post holder will contribute to maintaining Cyber Essentials, GDPR, and NHS compliance while delivering a high standard of user-focused IT support., 1. Technical Support & Service Desk
- Provide first-line and second-line IT support to clinical and non-clinical staff
- Diagnose and resolve issues relating to:
- Windows laptops (including Microsoft Surface devices)
- Printers, scanners, smartcard readers, and peripherals
- VPN connectivity and secure remote access
- Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive)
- Support SystemOne access issues, smartcard troubleshooting, and basic clinical system queries
- Log, manage, and resolve IT support tickets, escalating where required
- Systems, Network & Firewall Support
- Assist with the day-to-day management of clinic networks, including:
- LAN/Wi-Fi connectivity
- Network switches and access points
- Support firewall configuration and monitoring, including:
- Basic rule management (with oversight from the IT Manager or provider)
- VPN configuration and connectivity troubleshooting
- Monitoring alerts and security logs
- Liaise with managed service providers or vendors for advanced firewall or network issues
- Ensure network changes align with security best practice and NHS guidance
- User, Device & System Administration
- Create, modify, and disable user accounts across:
- Microsoft 365 / Entra ID (Azure AD)
- System One and NHS-related systems (as authorised)
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes
- Configure and manage devices via Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager
- Assist with software deployment, patching, and updates
- Security, Compliance & NHS Alignment
- Support compliance with:
- Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus
- GDPR and DSP Toolkit
Assist with:
- Endpoint protection and device encryption
- Firewall and network security controls
- Secure access controls and password policies
- Audit logs and basic incident response
- Handle sensitive clinical and personal data with confidentiality and professionalism
- IT Assets, Documentation & Change Control
- Maintain accurate records of:
- IT assets, devices, and network equipment
- Firewall and network configurations (where appropriate)
- Software licences and system access
- Create and update:
- IT procedures and runbooks
- User guides and FAQs
- Network and security documentation
- Collaboration, Training & Vendors
- Work closely with clinical and administrative teams to understand system requirements
- Provide basic user training on:
- Microsoft 365
- SharePoint
- Secure access and clinical systems
- Liaise with third-party suppliers, NHS teams, and managed IT providers for escalated issues
Requirements
Do you have experience in VPN?, * Experience in an IT Support / IT Technician / Service Desk role
- Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and networking
- Working knowledge of Windows environments
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Intune management
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (LAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPNs)
- Strong communication skills and user-focused approach
Desirable
- Experience supporting SystemOne or other NHS clinical systems
- Exposure to:
- VPN configuration and troubleshooting
- Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager
- Experience working in healthcare or regulated environments
- IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, ITIL Foundation)
- Knowledge of Cyber Essentials, GDPR, DSP Toolkit
