Job description
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of software researchers and support them in achieving the agreed research targets. Each day, you will coach, mentor, and develop the team. You will also showcase your expertise by helping in managing research projects, technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property. You will act as a technical liaison for the team, facilitating communication and alignment with internal and external stakeholders.

This role is contributing to the Corporate Research Center in Switzerland. Main stakeholders are Divisions across all Business Areas of ABB.
The main responsibilities include
- Leading a software research group with around 10 researchers. Additionally, you will be coaching project leaders for scientific excellence and professional execution of projects
- Overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of research activities as well as proposing and implementing strategic research initiatives
- Acting as a technical liaison for the team, facilitating communication and alignment with internal and external stakeholders. You will also be driving continuous improvement of research processes, workflows, and team practices
- Managing technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property as well as developing and acquiring competencies that will be needed for the development of future products and systems.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Research?, Do you have a Doctoral degree?, * PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with one or multiple of the following topics is expected: software architecture, software engineering, real-time and embedded systems, AI/ML, edge/IoT computing, distributed systems, and wireless systems
- Several years of relevant experience in software research and project management
- Experience with people management is highly desirable
- Fluency in English and willingness to learn German
- Generally open to new fields of research and technology
- Strong communication skills with a track record of collaborative work in interdisciplinary team environments
