Job description
You will be an experienced, strategic yet hands-on Head of IT, ideally with a strong background in warehouse, logistics, or supply chain environments. As Head of IT, you will have overall responsibility for the technology strategy, systems, and infrastructure across multiple operational sites and Head Office, ensuring IT enables growth, efficiency, and operational excellence.
You will be responsible for the balancing of long-term IT strategy with day-to-day operational delivery. Working closely with senior stakeholders, site leadership teams, and external partners, you will ensure systems are robust, secure, scalable, and aligned to the needs of a fast-growing logistics operation., * IT Strategy & Leadership - Define and deliver the overall IT strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives across warehouse operations and Head Office. Lead, develop, and mentor the IT team, setting clear standards and priorities.
- Infrastructure & Core Systems - Oversee the design, delivery, and ongoing management of IT infrastructure, networks, servers, and end-user computing across multiple UK sites and Head Office.
- Systems Ownership - Own the selection, implementation, optimisation, and performance of core business systems, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP, and supporting platforms. Lead full tender processes, vendor evaluation, contract negotiation, and multi-site system rollouts.
- Operational & Warehouse Technology - Ensure warehouse IT environments support 24/7 operations, automation, scanning, RF, and operational technology critical to logistics performance.
- Cybersecurity & Risk- Establish and maintain robust cybersecurity frameworks, ensuring protection of company and client data. Manage risk, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
- Change, Growth & Transformation - Lead IT initiatives to support new site openings, automation projects, new client onboarding, and business transformation programmes.
- Vendor & Budget Management - Manage third-party suppliers, system partners, and service providers. Take ownership of IT budgets, cost control, and contract management.
- Governance & Compliance - Ensure IT policies, processes, and controls comply with GDPR, data protection, and industry best practice.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Partner with senior leadership, site directors, and functional teams to ensure IT solutions deliver real operational value and continuous improvement.
Requirements
This is a senior leadership role requiring strong commercial awareness, excellent stakeholder management, and deep experience within operational IT environments., * Extensive senior-level IT leadership experience, ideally within logistics, warehousing, supply chain, or manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise in WMS (Warehouse Management System) Implementation, Selection and Imbedding.
- ERP selection and multi-site implementation, including running tenders and delivering complex programmes.
- Strong experience managing IT across multiple operational sites and Head Office.
- Demonstrated ability to set IT strategy while remaining hands-on when required.
- Excellent knowledge of infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operational IT environments.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budget ownership and vendor negotiation.
- Proven change management and transformation experience.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Calm and decisive leadership style suited to fast-paced operational environments.
