Job description
- Designing and building scalable data pipelines and ETL workflows to ingest, transform and serve data reliably
- Collaborating with data analysts, stakeholders and platform teams to gather data requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
- Implementing data quality checks, validation frameworks and monitoring to ensure data integrity and pipeline reliability
- Optimising data warehouse performance, query efficiency and cost-effectiveness across cloud infrastructure
- Maintaining CI/CD practices, version control and infrastructure-as-code tooling to ensure deployment stability
- Troubleshooting data flow issues, bottlenecks and performance degradation across distributed systems
- Contributing to documentation, architecture decisions and knowledge-sharing within the data team, Most roles of this type offer the following, dependent on the industry and seniority of the role:

Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, including pipeline design, ETL development and data warehouse optimisation
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one cloud data platform (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud)
- Solid understanding of data modelling, data quality principles and pipeline orchestration
- Experience with one or more of: Python, Java, .NET or similar languages for data processing
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tooling
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Authorisation to work in the United Kingdom
Nice-to-have
- Master’s degree or Google Cloud Data Engineer certification
- Experience with distributed systems architecture or microservices
- Exposure to tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Kafka or similar streaming/orchestration platforms
- Knowledge of Power BI, Terraform or infrastructure-as-code practices
- Agile working practices and experience supporting analytics or BI initiatives
Benefits & conditions

You could be working on contract terms at £500-650 per day, based in Birmingham, West Midlands, with exposure to cloud platforms, modern CI/CD practices and distributed systems thinking.
