Job description

The GIS Mapper will maintain and update the GIS connected model for the electric utility system. This role focuses on editing, modifying, and updating geospatial data within maps using information from work orders, construction drawings, field reports, and other approved sources. GIS Mapper Responsibilities

  • Edit, update, and modify geospatial data within GIS maps.
  • Maintain the electric GIS connected model using work orders, as-built drawings, completion records, field reports, and work management systems.
  • Perform GIS analysis and queries and prepare reports, tabulations, charts, custom maps, standard prints, and ad-hoc plots.
  • Maintain service-point data and relationships to feeding-source transformers.
  • Track utility asset data, including history, inspections, and attachments.
  • Resolve conflicting data, mapping, connectivity, and land issues through office or field investigation.
  • Support facility relocations, load rearrangements, new business, and other major projects.
  • Perform manual or computer-aided drafting.
  • Travel once per week to a secondary company location for print distribution.
  • Perform limited fieldwork, estimated at 5 10%.

Requirements

  • Experience using GIS applications and understanding relationships within GIS.
  • Ability to update, edit, or modify geospatial data within a map.
  • One to two years of GIS experience through work, school, or internships.
  • Valid New Jersey driver s license.
  • Ability to work at various company locations based on business needs and workload.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and other Windows applications.

GIS Mapper Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility industry experience.
  • Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems.

The GIS Mapper must work on-site every day for a minimum of eight weeks for training. Depending on the GIS Mapper s ability to work independently, the contractor may be introduced to a hybrid rotation. The number of remote days will depend on staffing, work assignments, and the assigned office s schedule. Recent college graduates with GIS coursework or internship experience may be considered.
