Job description
The role is in the Architecture and Technical Standards team within ICT and is a great opportunity to be involved in major IT projects
You will play a key role in creating architecture documents for existing systems and appraising technical specifications as part of procurement and projects for new systems.
You will work with ICT teams to ensure that only appraised and authorised software is used on laptops, tablets and mobile phones and help to setup technical safeguards to ensure that rejected software cannot be used.
You will be involved in projects to implement new software and upgrades of existing, this can include research or participating in proof of concept activities to ensure that the proposed software is fit for purpose and secure
Training is available for Microsoft management solutions including Intune, Defender and Purview.
The role is hybrid with ability to work from home and attend Staffordshire Place 1 for hands on configuration work, workshops , meetings, liaison with other IT teams and training., Some of your responsibilities will include to,
- Work with the team to review requests for new applications to ensure that they do not duplicate existing software, are secure, supported and fit for purpose
- Work with colleagues to review software currently installed on laptops, tablets and mobile phones to ensure that they are fit for purpose, licensed, secure and supported.
- Review existing architecture documents regularly for accuracy.
- Work with colleagues to create architecture documents for new, upgraded and key systems.
- Attend monthly architecture group meetings
- Participate in the technical assurance group for all major IT changes
- Research new developments and software to support architecture and technical standards work
Requirements
As an ideal candidate you will,
- have an HND or equivalent or relevant IT experience
- a good technical understanding of one of the following areas, desktop support, networks, servers or managing installs and applications using Microsoft management consoles
- be an effective communicator able to write technical documentation and present information to others verbally
- be able to use analytical skills to identify operational problems and contribute to their resolution
- be able to carry out self directed research on IT innovations e.g. AI to ensure that we are able to contribute fully to procurement decisions
